The GCI Seminar for Educators Application Deadline:

The 4-day GCI Seminar for secondary school educators and administrators will be held at the University of St Andrews in Scotland from July 27 - July 30, 2020. The Seminar runs concurrently with GCI's flagship program, the GCI Summit, which provides opportunities for interaction with secondary school students from around the world.

Instructor Introduction:

Dr. Eimer Page

Director of Global Initiatives, Instructor in English

Phillips Exeter Academy

We are pleased to introduce you to Dr. Eimer Page, an esteemed faculty member of Phillips Exeter Academy, where she serves as the Director of Global Initiatives and is an Instructor in English. Dr. Page (pictured above instructing Fellowship students from 2017) will return to the GCI Seminar this summer to facilitate Harkness®* academic sessions and workshops on incorporating the method in your classroom.

The Harkness® Method shifts the classroom from a place of didactic teaching to one that engages each student in a collaborative, group discussion. Harkness® originated at Phillips Exeter Academy in 1930, thanks to the vision of benefactor Edward Harkness, who believed in a more democratic way of learning. Students arrange themselves around an oval table to discuss a topic for the day; the object is not mastery, but critical and collaborative analysis.

Harkness® is increasingly utilized in classrooms around the world, at both public and private institutions, and has become an essential component of our GCI Method.

*Harkness® is a registered trademark of Phillips Exeter Academy.

Educators at all stages in their careers interested in exploring how to prepare young people for leadership roles and how to equip them for initiating real change in their communities are encouraged to apply.

Applications will be reviewed as they are completed and offers will be made on a rolling basis. We encourage you to submit your application today!

GCI's programs could not happen without your support! Thank you for continuing to be part of our global community. We hope you will spread the word that applications are open!

Sincerely,

The GCI Team
